LIVE UPDATES: Greenland Speed Crossing Expedition - August 2011
In order to make Alex and Wilki's expedition to ski across the arctic Greenland icecap in less than 8days 9hours easier to follow, the blog will be updated here daily in addition to Twitter posts.
THE EXPEDITION IN NUMBERS:
350 miles - The number of miles the team will have to ski
12th Aug - The day they will travel by boat to their Nagtivit glacier start point
8days 9hours - The record which the pair will aim to break by skiing over 40 miles and 15 hours per day
-35 degrees - Likely summer minimum temperatures on the summit plateau although coastal/sea-level air temperatures will be above freezing.
60+mph - Wind speeds which are likely to sweep down towards the team in a piteraq storm
40kg - The super-lightweight sledges Alex and Wilki will begin their journey with
8,600kcal - The enormous daily intake of food to fuel them through 15 hour days in the harness
